My mom came to town the day after my birthday and that Saturday, we met my friends Dana, Brandi, Katie and Katie for brunch.

For my 27th birthday, I got a group of friends together to play mini golf. After that, we closed down the Olive Garden. Cuz that's how we roll!

My good friend Katie is a curator for a local historical society, and she helped put together a show on vintage wedding dresses. Sunday was the opening and I attended. It was neat to see the work she'd done. (And she wore a bridesmaid's dress from her cousin's wedding. Isn't she cute?)

I spent Saturday afternoon with my good friend Katie. We went shopping downtown, ate at the Pasta Bowl on Clark St., and then went back to her place to drink champagne and play with her kitty, Julian. As you can see, he is quite affectionate!

I know I've mentioned the band Catfight before. Well, they used to have this really awesome guitarist named Rose, who left Catfight to join this other band called Dot Dot Dot. This past weekend, Dot Dot Dot played the Belmont street fest. Oh, and apparently they were on the T.V. show Next Great American Band recently:

Afterwards, we went to eat at Hamburger Mary's (decent, though no Boston Blackie's, aka Best Hamburger Joint in Chicago according to Yours Truly), where our receipt was served in a shoe:

I've known Whitney for over 25 years ... longer than I've known my own sister. She's moving to Los Angeles in a week (for work), so I won't get to see her as often anymore. I'm glad she could make it for the weekend.

I saw this sign on my way to work today. I ind it interesting (annoying sometimes, but interesting) to see how American slang is used in advertising.

I also find it interesting to hear how American slang is adopted by other cultures. Yesterday I was shopping at Kohl's when I overheard a non-native English speaking clerk tell a disappointed customer, "I am totally feeling you right now."

Sunday was the day of the Theatre Marathon. Jason, his friend Rob and I made it through 9 of the 10 hours, stopping only from 7:00-8:00 to eat dinner at a nearby cafe. (Can't remember the name ... something with an F ... Francesca's?) I took the above photo in the bathroom of the cafe. It was a really cool display with all of the mugs that had been broken, autographed by the people who broke them. Below is a (blurry) picture of Calderwood Pavillion.


On Monday, Jason, Rob and I went to the MFA. It was really nice. You couldn't photograph any of the paintings, so I just took a few pictures of non-paintings.




The MFA has a large section of Egyptian art. I was determined to find a cat statue, since I think my cat, Sweeney, looks like an Egyptian kitty.

This lemur poster is just damn cool.
