Afterwards, we went to eat at Hamburger Mary's (decent, though no Boston Blackie's, aka Best Hamburger Joint in Chicago according to Yours Truly), where our receipt was served in a shoe:
I must say, I've had a rockin' good Memorial Day weekend. Friday, went to see RedWantingBlue again. Saturday, I spent the whole day with a friend (Melissa) I hadn't seen in a while ... we went bike shopping, took a walk by the lake, went to lunch, got ice cream, cat-sat, and even went grocery shopping. On Sunday, my friend Whitney drove in from Michigan, and we went to Melissa's and cooked on the grill. Then today, Whitney and I went downtown, and then met up with Rob on North Avenue Beach to see the band Catfight. All in all, it was a very fun (and relaxing) weekend!
On Thursday, I met up with Miriam and Brandi, two former co-workers. We went to a bar called Konak, and then Brandi and I went to see her husband in a show at Improv Olympic. I stayed up late on a school night, but it was worth it. ;) It was nice to catch up with them.
RedWantingBlue put on a really good show. Rob compares their sound to the Dave Matthews Band. Me, I'm not sure who I would compare them to (though the lead singer reminds me of the dude from Train). Here is the link to their MySpace page. I think the song "My Alibi" is particularly good.
If you ever get a chance to see them live (and according to their site, they travel all over), I would recommend doing so. The lead singer is super animated and fun to watch.
Albert and Nam were in from the California office, so naturally we wanted to show them a good time, Chicago style. And of course, I was the only woman present. (I am always the lone woman in a group of men, it seems. Not that I'm complaining ... ) As Brian pointed out, my situation last night was a lot like the really awful, now-canceled sitcom My Boys.
This morning, I set my alarm for 7:30 (I normally get up at 7:00). At 7:15, Sweeney jumped on my bed and began meowing. When I didn't respond, he began meowing frantically and sniffing me. I imagined him thinking, "She's dead. SHE'S DEAD!" Haha. As tired as I was, I had to smile.
